About Our Founder
Living in Japan for ten years from the age of twelve gave me a wonderful insight into the Japanese culture and enabled me to explore from an early age the world of Japanese cuisine. I pursued my interest in food gaining a degree in catering as well as attending sushi courses at The Sushi Academy and have spent my career working in the food industry.
After having a family I became passionate about healthy eating and educating children about healthy diet, where their food comes from and how to prepare exciting and inspiring dishes. I spent ten years running projects in schools educating over a million children across over 16,000 schools nationwide. I worked with both primary and secondary schools with a focus on developing usable resources for food technology teachers.
With my knowledge of Japanese cuisine I realised that sushi not only provided a fun platform from which to teach children about food preparation, but also provided a fantastic alternative to sandwiches and crisps to help combat the growing obesity problems in our society. It was with this in mind that the Make Sushi in School sushi kit was developed.
Whilst I try and visit schools whenever possible on a voluntary basis to teach sushi making I soon realised that it was not possible to support all the schools that asked for help. Using my knowledge of school resource requirements I therefore decided to produce a complete kit that would support teachers and provide them with everything they need to make sushi in school with out the help of an external visitor.
I hope you are able to invest in a kit and teach children this exciting and beneficial food preparation skill so they can increase their confidence in the kitchen and enjoy creating sushi for friends and family for years to come.
