Help combat obesity with this low fat food option
Recent government statistics show that almost a third of UK children are now overweight.
In the UK we suffer with a 23% obesity rate while Japan boasts the lowest obesity rate at 3.2% - one of the lowest rates in the world. This is not only due to a healthy diet consisting of such foods as sushi, but is also due to their cultural approach to food which differs greatly from ours.

Great lunchbox alternative
With the increase in wheat levels in our diet it is not unusual for us to consume wheat at evey meal during our normal day.
The introduction of sushi as a lunchtime meal or healthy snack option helps us to reduce this wheat intake - it's a great healthy substitute to sandwiches. Rice is also a great slow release carbohydrate keeping us fuller for longer meaning we're less likely to snack on unhealthy items. Sushi means seasoned vinegar and despiite popular beliefs it does not need to include raw fish.
Why not make sushi in school to teach the pupils how they can make their own delicious snacks at home too?

Fashionable food appealling to children
Sushi has become increasingly popular with children and teenagers as it is seen to be a fashionable food trend. It is unusual for such a healthy food to be so aspirational to this age group and sushi therefore provides a rare and exciting opportunity to affect the health and well being of the next generation.
As the fastest growing food sector in the UK it is important that we equip the next generation with the food preparation skills they will need to prepare the food they choose to consume.
Making sushi in school could inspire a difference in eating habits, making for a healthier next generation.
