We are very excited to announce the winner of our 2015 International Sushi Day competition. The entries were really fantastic but we are sure that you will agree that St Margarets C of E primary School in Durham produced a really amazing display.
We loved the visual effect of the presentation and the use of lettuce leaves for plates really highlighted the healthy eating aspect of sushi which we are so keen to educate children about. The teacher, Judith White, obviously taught her pupils how to roll their maki well as all the sushi looked delicious and it was great to see that the whole class could be included in the competition entry.
When I spoke to Judith she was so excited. She said that although the class had been reluctant when she first told them they were making sushi - because they thought it was raw fish and didnt think they would like it, but by the end of the lesson every single pupil was eating sushi! In fact, it was so well received that the children went home and told their parents about it and Judith had to run a separate class for teachers and parents too. Now that really is a deserving winner!
